School Lunch! (yummy)

Today I had lunch at school with Colton. It was for Mothers day and tomorrow the fathers come for Fathers Day. It was nice to get to eat with him without Emma, she was in preschool. He really enjoyed having me there.

I can totally understand why my child comes home starving half to death everyday now. He barely ate anything. I can't really blame him though, I kind of forgot how bad school food is. Well when we were in school I'm pretty sure that the food was better than it is now. We had hot dogs and chili, the buns were hard as a rock and cole slaw that tasted like it had been made for a week and sat out all day and cold baked beans and fruit, cookie and a roll.

Colton ate half of his hot dog, a roll and his cookie. I have tried packing his lunch in the past, but ran out of ideas on what to pack (and he's very picky), but now I'm seriously thinking about packing it next year, not only for better food but for the price. I will have two eating lunch and that will be $3.00 a day. That doesn't sound like that much, but it does add up.

On the website hillbillyhousewife.com, she has lots of lunch ideas, I will have to check them out again. If anyone else has any ideas for school lunches, let me know I would love to hear them. I also get to eat lunch at school on Friday too. Emma gets to go eat with the kindergarteners and ride the school bus. How lucky school lunch again:)

High Prices!

I am just disgusted with the cost of everything. I hate to watch the news anymore. It used to be all about crime now its all about the rising cost of gas and food. When is it ever going to end.

Today they were talking about the price of rice and that people are buying so much rice that stores are actually rationing it. Can you believe that rice has doubled in price since January? Thats ridiculous. Isn't beans and rice the cheapest thing you can eat. At least thats what Dave Ramsey always tells all his listeners to do to get out of debt.

I have really been trying this year to do better about my spending and be more careful about what I buy. But its so hard. Every week when I go to the store I can see price increases on everything.

I really don't know what Americans are supposed to do. It's obvious that the government doesn't care about regular hard working American families that are just trying to make ends meet and provide a good life for their families. It seems like the American dream of having two nice cars and a nice home and not living paycheck to paycheck is getting harder and harder for the average family to achieve.

We aren't as bad off as a lot of people out there. We aren't about to lose our home, we have health and dental insurance, and my husband has a good job with good benefits. So I'm very thankful that the Lord has blessed us with everything that we do have. I just pray that the price increases on everything stop very soon and that our economy changes. I'm also praying for this election. Right now I don't really care for any of them running and don't think anyone could clean the mess that we are in up.

Getting ready for gardening!

Today was absolutely beautiful. It was nearly 80 degrees. Wow at the beginning of the week it was only 40. I love spring. I mowed our yard for the first time yesterday and we tilled the garden today. We picked up rocks for about an hour, but then gave up because it was too hot.

I will start planting the garden soon. I can't wait for all the wonderful veggies to come in again and to start canning and freezing things. I want a bigger garden than last years, because we need to put away as much as we can to save money.

I went to the grocery store this morning and got really dissappointed in myself. I spent $120.00 in one store. I did save $40 with coupons and sales, but I was really upset with myself. I had been doing really well until this week. I hadn't prepared well enough before going and I went at a busy part of day with my four year old (crazy). I am really trying to do better to save our family money.

On a lighter note I won a free book from a blogger giveaway. I won a family management book from six in the country. I'm really excited this looks like a great book. I can't wait to recieve it. By the way sixinthecountry.blogspot.com is a great blog, be sure to check it out if you haven't already.

Have a great weekend!

My babies not a baby anymore:(

I can't believe the time has come. That time is my baby will be starting school soon. We had kindergarten registration last night:(

Oh I have known since she was born that she would be going to school one day and she has been in preschool for two years. But it is so sad to think that both of my kids are growing up so fast. I didn't think it would be as hard to send the second one to school as the first, but I think it's going to be worse. I still have four months until the big day and I'm going to try to make the most of it.

Emma loves to watch home videos and we watched videos of when she was a baby this week. I defiantly shouldn't have watched them on the day she is getting registered for kindergarten. It's so sad, she wasn't a baby long enough. Of course when she was a baby, I didn't enjoy my time with her like I should have, because she was very unhappy all the time. She cried alot. But now she has gotten to be a lot sweeter and funnier, and helpful. She loves to help me cook and clean and she is very prissy, always fixing her hair and wanting makeup, and dancing and singing constantly.

It's really sad to know that my kids are getting older. My husband said wouldn't it be great to go back and hold them and play with them when they are babies for a day or two, but then go back to the age they are now. That would be great, but that's not possible.

Of course the upside is they sleep through the night (most of the time), they use the bathroom without accidents (most of the time), and they can feed theirselves (again, most of the time).

She is so excited about school, so I need to be too. I just need to remember to enjoy my kids at each and every stage they are in, even when it is very difficult. I'm sure after having both kids at home every day this summer, I will be ready for both of them to be in school.

Boys will be Boys!

I finished spring cleaning my kitchen today. Well almost, I lined my cabinet shelves with contact paper, but I ran out before I could get all of them. I will try to pick up some contact paper when I go to town next and try to finish. If I don't get lazy.

Colton spent the night Saturday with his best friend. His best friend is my best friends son. We have been best friends since we were in the third grade. The boys are the same age, Colton is four months older than her son. Emma is about two years older than her daughter and she also has a new baby that is six months old. My husband says that we will not be having another one just so me and her can keep it even:(

Anyway Colton told my friends husband that a friend of his, that is also our neighbor, and is in the third grade, had a lighter at school the other day. Colton thought it was really cool, he said he saw the kid set toilet paper on fire in the bathroom and flush it. He also thought that it was cool that the lighter had a womans boobies on it (that makes it even worse to me). He didn't think it was a big deal, of course most seven year old boys wouldn't. My friend knew that I needed to know so she called me. I was so upset. My son plays outside with this kid all the time. I didn't know how I was going to keep him from playing with him. Because as soon as my kids go outside, him and his brother and sister come over. We get very frustrated with it, because they stay forever and their parents never watch them or care where they go.

I asked Colton about it that night and let him know how serious that was. I told him that this kid would get kicked out of school if he got caught and if Colton was with him he would get kicked out too. He promised that he would stay away from him.

Well when he got home today he said that the kid got suspended from school for six days because his brother found the lighter and told on him. I know this is horrible to say, but I think its kind of funny. At least it lets Colton and the rest of the little boys that think its so cool to catch things on fire, know that its really serious and you can get in big trouble.

I know I've said this before but boys seem to get more and more difficult as they get older. He was the absolute perfect baby, he was so happy and smiled all the time and never cried. Now he has started back talking and seeing how much he can get by with and doing everything in his power to aggrevate his sister. And he's started liking things like lighters, knives and girls. I see many rough years ahead of me. But no matter how he acts he's still my little boy and I love him to death.

Spring Cleaning!

Today I started spring cleaning. I focused on my kitchen today and hope to do a different room everyday this week.

I cleaned out my fridge on Saturday and cleaned off the top of it and threw away alot of junk. I cleaned out my cabinets and pantry and got rid of lots of stuff that I never use. I also cleaned my oven which was a very nasty job. I hate to say this but that was the first time I had cleaned my oven since we've been married (almost 9 years). Needless to say it was very dirty. But it wasn't too bad to clean with the Easy Off Max oven cleaner. If I would have known it wasn't that bad I would've done it sooner. That's just one of those jobs you always put off.

I hope to finish the kitchen tomorrow and start on the bathroom. I really need to get my house more organized. I'm a pack rat and need to learn how to get rid of things.

Finally He's Caught!

One week later and the manhunt is finally over. He was caught in Texas late last night. He had stole a truck from a local tree farm here in Virginia and went to North Carolina. He left that truck there and stole a church van and went to Texas.

He was not harmed and neither was anyone else, including any police officers.

Thank the Lord. Maybe our life can get back to normal this week. I can feel safe going outside and let my kids go outside again. I'm just so relieved this whole thing is over and no one else was hurt.

The Search Still Goes On!!

The manhunt is still going on. It has been going on since Sunday.

The kids and I stayed with my parents the last two nights because my husband works night shift. But I have decided to suck it up and stay home tonight. Yesterday the cops and helicopters were all out on our road just a few houses down from ours. I have heard lots of different rumors that he broke into a home on our road and stole five guns and a car. He also crashed the car on our road and fled on foot again. At this point we aren't really sure what all to believe, because anyone could do a crime now and it would be blamed on this guy.

They have put a $25,000 reward up for the capture of him, hopefully that will help him to be caught sooner. I am ready for this stress to be over and for everything to be back to normal.
